Welcome to York First UMC!

We began a new sermon series with the New Year - THRIVE: Living by Decision, Not Default

What does is look like to THRIVE? We make so many decisions every day - what to wear, what to eat, what to prioritize, what needs to be done, what can wait until tomorrow.... and ALL the other things. It can be overwhelming, but what if we look at it another way. As Christ followers, there is a built in framework that allows us to see our decisions differently as we lean into what the scriptures say. We can see decisions as opportunities. Last year we dug deep into the early church in our study of ACTS and saw the HOPE in Jesus in the Book of Revelation. Now it is time to look at what living out a Christian life really looks like everyday and apply the scripture values to follow the teachings of Jesus, connect deeply, reaching others, serve faithfully, give generously and trust that we have a good and wonderful savior/counselor/friend to walk through every moment and every decision with us.

New to our church? 

 

On the corner of 7th and Nebraska Avenue stands more than just a building—it’s the first church planted in the community of York, a presence of faith and hope for over 150 years. And today, we’re still here—not just as a landmark, more than a building, but as a living, breathing community. We are York First.


A church that has stood through every season, a people committed to one mission: to grow a Christ-centered community that loves and serves. We love because Christ first loved us. We connect with one another as we grow together. We serve, because God calls us outward, to make a difference in the lives around us.


Our space is more than walls—it’s a home for the community. On Wednesday nights, children and youth fill our halls with laughter, learning, and friendship--- a safe place to grow and belong. They are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, discovering new ways to live out their faith, knowing that church happens wherever we gather to love, learn, and serve.


On Sundays, we worship with a blend of tradition and contemporary praise—honoring where we have been and embracing where God is leading. It’s a space where all ages can come as they are--- yet be transformed by the love of Christ. We believe Christ is still transforming lives—right here, right now. And we believe we are called to join Him.

Kids & Youth Ministry

We love our kids and youth!  We believe youth are a vital part of a healthy church and desire to offer fun, faith-filled activities and teaching to foster growth within each child in their individual walks of faith.  Our Wednesday night program that runs September 10, 2025 through early April 2026 offers kids and youth a chance to gather and learn about Jesus' love for them.  We have a gathering time with activities at 5:45pm with a meal open to all ages at 6:00pm - even parents!  The meal is free-will donation and features favorites like nachos, pork loin & cheesy potatoes, spaghetti, pancakes & ham and other delicious meals prepared by a loving, experienced kitchen staff.  Class time begins at 6:30pm for all kids and youth with adult bible study available during special times throughout the year.  The last Wednesday of the month is a craft night for kids through 5th grade.  This year there will be confirmation for those who choose to participate for kids in 7th/8th grade.  If you are interested in confirmation,

We can learn so much together through reading and studying the Bible. We pray for each other, encourage one another and help all to grow in their knowledge of God and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, whom we owe our salvation.  We invite you to connect, grow and serve with us because we want to love like Jesus!
